Estonia: Number of active-service military personnel grows by 135 in 2018

TALLINN, Mar 14, BNS – The number of Estonian active-service military personnel grew by 135 in 2018, it appears from a report on the fulfilment of the duty of conscript military service presented by Minister of Defense Juri Luik to the government on Thursday.

The number of active-service military personnel grew by 135 to 3,422 by the end of the year. This is by 12 service members more than planned.

Increases bigger than the one registered in 2018 have previously taken place only in 2012 and 2008.

In 2018, a decision was made to raise the average pay of active-service military personnel to a level 33 percent above the national average pay.
