Russia pledges to take extra security measures during missile tests

RIGA, April 3 (LETA) - Russia's reply to Latvian Defense Ministry regarding the upcoming Russian missile tests over Latvia's exclusive economic zone in the Baltic Sea says that Russia will pay great attention to security during the tests, but other questions remain unanswered, the Defense Ministry's Military Public Affairs Department Director Kaspars Galkins told LETA.

After Russia's announcement of the missile tests last week, the Defense Ministry asked Russia to provide as much information as possible about the tests, including what kind of missiles would be tested and how security would be enforced during the tests.

Russia said that the missile tests were part of a military exercise, and that all safety measures relevant would be taken during the exercise.

As reported, the Main Air Traffic Management Center of Russia informed Latvia last week that the Russian Navy will be performing missile tests over Latvia’s exclusive economic zone in the Baltic Sea from April 4 to 6.
