Missile strikes of Western countries against Syria is appropriate response to Syria’s chemical attack against civilians – Latvian Foreign Ministry

RIGA, April 14 (LETA) – The Latvian Foreign Ministry believes that the missile strikes of the US, France and the UK against military facilities in Syria is n appropriate response to Syria’s chemical attack against civilian population by Assad regime, the ministry said in its statement.

Use of chemical weapons is a crime and those responsible must be held accountable, the ministry said.

The ministry also regrets Russia’s decision on April 10 to veto the UN Security Council resolution that would have created a new inquiry to ascertain blame for chemical weapons attacks in Syria.

The ministry strictly condemned the April 7 attack in the town of Douma in Syria, where 45 people were killed and at least 500 injured in what appeared to be a chlorine gas attack.

As reported, the US, UK and France on Saturday morning launched coordinated strikes in Syria, hitting targets associated with the Syrian regime's chemical weapons program.
