Estonian foreign minister stresses necessity of stability in NATO neighborhood

TALLINN, July 12 (LETA--BNS) - Estonian Foreign Minister Sven Mikser took part in a meeting of NATO foreign ministers with their Jordanian, Tunisian and Iraqi counterparts in Brussels on Wednesday evening, where the threats originating in the south, increasing the stability of partners and developing of defense capability were focused on.

"It is important in the interest of Estonia's security to ensure stability in the NATO neighborhood, which in its turn will increase our security and the security of our allies," Mikser said according to spokespeople for the Estonian Foreign Ministry. "This requires close cooperation between our partner countries who share the same values and interests with the alliance, and NATO and the EU," Mikser said, adding that increasing the capability of the allies is an important part of that.

"Participation in the international fight against terrorism is a priority as well. The fight against terrorism attracts a lot of interest also in the European Union, which enables greater cooperation between the two organizations and plays an important role in solving the migration crisis," Mikser said.
