Estonia: US attack aircraft to land on Kuressaare airfield for the first time

TALLINN, Aug 11, BNS - A-10 attack aircraft of the Maryland U.S. Army National Guard are to land on the Kuressaare airfield on Saaremaa island as the planes will participate in an exercise of the Saaremaa unit of the volunteer corps Kaitseliit (Defense League).

Altogether eight U.S. A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft are to depart from the Amari air base on Wednesday for a two-day cooperation exercise with the Saaremaa unit of the volunteer corps Kaitseliit, spokespeople at the headquarters of the Estonian defense forces said.

The aircraft will land on the Kuressaare airfield and this will be the first time when A-10 type attack aircraft land on that particular airfield.

The exercise will include practicing the control of sea area and protecting the port of Roomassaare and the surrounding area by sea and by air.
