Belarus inspectors in Estonia for OSCE monitoring tour

TALLINN, Nov 14, BNS - Inspectors from the armed forces of Belarus began a monitoring mission in Estonia under the Vienna document of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on Monday.

"A five-strong delegation from Belarus is in Estonia this week to inspect the 1st Infantry Brigade and the 2nd Infantry Brigade within the framework of the Vienna document of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe," Simmo Saar, spokesman for the military headquarters in Tallinn, told BNS.

Arms control inspectors of the defense forces of Estonia have this year inspected the armed forces of Belarus and attended the Zapad large scale military exercise as observers. In addition, Estonians have taken part in inspection tours led by other NATO member states.

In accordance with the confidence and security building measures set out in the Vienna document, OSCE member states can inspect specified areas in each other's territory during up to 48 hours. The maximum size of the area subject to the inspection is 18,000 square kilometers.
