TALLINN, Apr 20, BNS - Concluding a bilateral cooperation agreement between Estonia's Kaitseliit (Defense League) volunteer corps and the Swedish Home Guard was discussed during a meeting of the two organizations in Tallinn earlier this week.
Kaitseliit commander Brig. Gen. Meelis Kiili and the commander of the Swedish Home Guard, Brig. Gen. Roland Ekenberg, spoke about cooperation between the organizations, specifically a potential cooperation agreement that would facilitate the planning and organization of common undertakings, spokespeople for Kaitseliit said.
On Wednesday, Ekenberg visited the Kaitseliit headquarters in Tallinn, the headquarters of the Tallinn region of the volunteer defense corps and the Kaitseliit school. On Thursday he was scheduled to meet with Estonia's Defense Minister Margus Tsahkna and the commander of the defense forces, Gen. Riho Terras.
Cooperation between Kaitseliit and the Swedish Home Guard has intensified year after year, with volunteers and members of the youth branches of both organizations taking part in each other's training events and the orchestras of the Swedish Home Guard and the Tallinn region of Kaitseliit planning a joint concert.
