Estonian PM: Components of missile have still not been found

TALLINN, Aug 09, BNS - Estonian Prime Minister Juri Ratas said that parts of the missile accidentally fired by a Spanish fighter jet on Tuesday have still not been found.

According to the prime minister, the government received a thorough overview of the missile incident from Defense Minister Juri Luik. "The fire [caused by the missile] is under control, as of right now no parts of the missile nor the warhead have been found. The 1st Infantry Brigade, the Air Force as well as rescue officials will be out there today, altogether approximately 100 people," Ratas said.

The prime minister thanked people who responded to the call for information and gave hints about the possible journey of the missile. "I wish to thank the defense forces as well as the media in covering the incident and bringing information to people," Ratas said.

He emphasized that the incident was extremely regrettable and that since 2004, when the NATO air policing missions started, nothing of the sort has happened.

Ratas said that Estonia must be actively involved in investigating the incident. The prime minister said that at the same time there is no reason to believe that Estonia's cooperation with NATO as well as Spain would in any way worsen.
