NATO jets in Baltics scrambled 4 times last week to intercept Russian aircraft

VILNIUS, Dec 03, BNS - NATO's fighter-jets patrolling Baltic airspace were scrambled four times last week to identify and escort Russian military aircraft in international airspace over the Baltic Sea, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said on Monday.

    The Alliance's aircraft intercepted Su-27 and Su-34 fighter-jets, and An-26 transport planes.

All of the Russian aircraft had their onboard transponders off.

The NATO air-policing mission is conducted from Lithuania and Estonia.
