RIGA, June 12 (LETA) - Latvia will purchase parts of used all-terrain carriers from Sweden for EUR 5.7 million, LETA was told at the Latvian Defense Ministry.As a result of a negotiations procedure, Sweden's BAE Systems Hagglunds AB has committed to supplying the parts of the carriers for EUR 5,764,500.LETA was told at the Defense Ministry's press office that the parts, which are needed for the repairs and maintenance of the military vehicles, will be delivered over a seven-year period.. In 2002 and 2003 Sweden donated used Hagglunds Bandvagan 206 (BV 206) tracked articulated all-terrain carriers to Latvia. The vehicles have been manufactured between 1979 and 1992.Since there are no plans to purchase new vehicles of this type for Latvian Home Guard units in the near future and the BV 206 carriers meet the needs of the Latvian armed forces it has been decided to repair and maintain the existing equipment.The price of a new BV 206 is roughly EUR 1 million.
