Estonia: Wildfire caused by missile put out

TALLINN, Aug 10, BNS - Rescuers by Thursday evening were able to extinguish the wildfire in Jogeva rural municipality caused by the missile accidentally fired from a Spanish fighter jet on Tuesday.

The Endla bog caught fire on Tuesday when the missile fired from a Spanish fighter landed there. The area of the fire did not spread and remained within the initial 900 square meters, spokespeople for the South rescue center told BNS.

The pockets of fire within the peat terrain were extinguished from a distance to ensure the safety of the rescuers. Rescuers managed to extinguish most of the pockets of fire by Thursday evening. If necessary, they will continue to cool down the soil on Friday.
