Estonian defense industry companies to participate in arms fair in London

TALLINN, Sep 13, BNS – Estonian defense industry companies are to participate in the world's leading defense industry fair held in London to find new cooperation partners and potential customers.

Enterprise Estonia in cooperation with ten innovative clusters of the Estonian defense and security industry is to organize a stand at the Defense and Security Equipment International 2017 (DSEI) fair.

Ingvar Parnamae, head of the innovation cluster of the Estonia defense and security industry, said that the focus of the DSEI fair which opened on Tuesday is on five sectors managed by the defense industry -- air, land, sea, cyber defense and security -- in which Estonian companies can present innovative solutions and state-of-the-art technology.

"Our companies already have important transactions to show in the direction of the Middle East and U.S. -- this gives hope that the largest defense industry fair in Europe will also help our companies find new potential customers and through that reach new sales transactions, even more so as our companies have products that are unique and already valued in the whole world," Parnamae said in a press release.

Estonia's joint stand will feature the products of ten Estonian defense industry companies, including Bristol Trust, Defendec, Eli, Milectria, Milrem, TerraMil, Threod System and Toci. In addition, Baltic Workboats and Nord Arms will also exhibit their products at the fair. The Estonian delegation will include more than 80 people and the participation of the companies will be funded by the European Union Regional Development Fund.

Taavi Veskimagi, chairman of the supervisory board of the Estonian Defense Industry Association, said that the Estonian defense industry has gone through a long development step in the past few years and added that today, export is clearly the main focus of the Estonian defense industry. "Now we need to expand cooperation with global defense industry companies and find a clear role for the Estonian defense industry in the global value chain, which would help both the export of the Estonian defense industry as a whole as well as the product development of the companies. Fairs like DSEI are an opportunity to establish those relations and access the value chain."

Commander of the Estonian Defense Forces Gen. Riho Terras is to also participate in the DSEI 2017 fair where he will support the pursuits of the Estonian defense industry companies in establishing new contacts and developing existing ones.

In order to promote the reputation and export opportunities of Estonian companies, Enterprise Estonia organizes up to 19 joint national stands a year at different international business fairs. Joint national stands offer the opportunity for establishing new contacts and directly marketing one's products and services to resellers and consumers.

In addition to DSEI 2017, Estonia's joint stand in the field of the defense industry will also be featured at the UMEX 2018 fair in Abu Dhabi in February and at the Eurosatory 2018 fair in Paris in June.

The international defense industry fair DSEI 2017 is to be held in London from September 12 to 15. The fair is organized every two years and participants include approximately 35,000 people from across the world.
