Estonian, Moldovan defmins talk about hybrid threats

TALLINN, May 15, BNS - Estonia's Defense Minister Juri Luik and his Moldovan counterpart Eugen Sturza during their meeting in Tallinn on Tuesday talked about the need to combat hybrid threats and possibilities for Moldova to work together with NATO.

Luik encouraged Moldova to make use of all forms of cooperation with NATO and voiced appreciation of the steps taken by Sturza to reform the domain of national defense in Moldova.

"Estonia supports Moldova's active cooperation with NATO," the minister said according to spokespeople.

Luik thanked Moldova for participation in the NATO KFOR operation in Kosovo. 

The ministers also talked about greater need to engage in cooperation in analyzing hybrid threats.

Within the framework of defense cooperation between the Baltic countries and Moldova, 24 people from Moldova have studied at the Baltic Defense College in Tartu. The Estonian minister expressed hope that the next people from Moldova will start attending a study program in Tartu already this fall.

The minister of defense of Moldova also visited the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence in Tallinn and met with the chairman of the Estonian parliament's national defense committee, Hannes Hanso. His program includes a visit to the Estonian War Museum in the evening, and to the e-Estonia showroom, the Estonian Defense Industry Association and the naval base in Tallinn on Wednesday.
