Baltic countries sign agreement on fast movement of NATO forces

TALLINN, Feb 15, BNS – Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian defense ministers signed an agreement for a quicker and easier movement of NATO allied forces.

Margus Tsahkna, Raimonds Bergmanis and Raimundas Karobilis signed a joint political agreement on Wednesday at the Estonian representation to NATO in Brussels for a quicker and easier movement of allied forces in the three Baltic countries, spokespeople for the Estonian Defense Ministry said.

"The aim of the joint communique is to achieve the legal capability by June to receive NATO's Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VJTF) in 24 hours and prepositioned units in 48 hours," Tsahkna said. "The bureaucracy and borders of members states must not hinder the readiness and fast movement of allied forces," he added.

Tsahkna is attending the two-day meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.
