Estonian special forces hold exercise in unconventional warfare

TALLINN, May 18, BNS - An exercise titled Dagger, focusing on military support and unconventional warfare, was held by members of theĀ Estonian special forces simultaneously with the Spring Storm large scale training exercise of the defense forces.

In addition to members of special operations forces, participants in the one and a half week exercise also included members of the Kaitseliit (Defense League) volunteer corps and allied soldiers. The tasks performed in the course of the exercise included enacting different asymmetrical battle situations and evacuation tasks, spokespeople for the Special Operations Command said.

The exercise also included practicing interoperability with the internal security forces.

"Every year during the Dagger exercise we focus on different battle situations, which are influenced by the location and training needs of the exercise. This year, we challenged the ability of the subdivisions to independently carry out battle missions and polished the command and staff procedures in extreme conditions," Col. Riho Uhtegi, head of the Special Operations Command of the Estonian defense forces, said.
