LONDON, Aug 5 (LETA) - Latvia's heptathlete Laura Ikauniece placed ninth at London Olympic Games Saturday night with a result matching the national record of Latvia.
In the last event, 800-meter race, Ikauniece finished in fifth place, clocking two minutes 12.13 seconds, which was her personal best.
After the last event, the Latvian had 6414 points altogether, matching the national record of Aiga Grabuste.
Britain's Jessica Ennis became the Olympic champion with 6955 points, setting a new national record for Great Britain. Lilli Schwarzkopf of Germany took silver, whereas Tatyana Chernova of Russia placed third.
The other Latvian heptathlete at the Olympics, Grabuste withdrew after the third event due to injury.
