Natural gas, electicity prices should decline in Latvia – Aseradens

RIGA, Sept 11 (LETA) – Natural gas and electricity prices in the coming years should decline, said Latvian Economics Minister Arvils Aseradens in an interview with commercial LNT television on Monday.

"We are going in the direction where electricity prices should decline every year," the minister said, adding that in the coming years the mandatory purchase component (MPC) on electricity should drop by one third.

He also said that natural gas prices in the coming 2-3 years will near the prices in Central Europe where they are lower than in Latvia.

"The competition mechanisms have been developed and we have a reason to think that soon our prices will be competitive with prices in Central Europe. (..) I think that in the coming 2-3 years our prices should level out with the prices in Poland or Germany," the minister said.
