The Progressive invite Movement For! to cooperate in building center-left electoral bloc in Latvia

RIGA, March 12 (LETA) - The Progressive today extended an invitation to the Movement For! party to cooperate in building a socially responsible democracy in Latvia, the party announced.

The Progressive said that Latvia needed a leftist or center-left electoral bloc so that the left-wing segment would not be left entirely to pro-Russia Harmony party as it would threaten the Western vector of Latvia's development.

Therefore the Progressive urge the Movement For! to think again about its choice of cooperation partners ahead of the general elections.

They said that the mistake of the Unity party in creating an alliance of the parties representing a very broad ideological spectrum should be avoided and a new leftist or center-left electoral bloc should be created.

Such bloc should be based on a clear opposition to the current government headed by Prime Minister Maris Kucinskis (Greens/Farmers) which, in the opinion of the Progressive, is already undermining Latvia's pro-Western course and aggravating inequality in the country.

The Progressive said they had been following the political ideals rooted in Social Democratic values for seven years already and were prepared to do so also in the future. The essence of their ideological program is the vision of Latvia as a Nordic country based in the model of a progressive, egalitarian, free and environment-friendly society that would be free from oligarch influence.

The Progressive have already rejected the possibility of cooperation with For Latvia's Development party, saying the two political forces had different ideas regarding health care and the Progressive wanted "to offer voters an alternative political vision of the national development that would be clearly based on the principles of socially responsible democracy and free of the oligarch influence".
