    Unemployment level in Latvia drops to 6.4% in May

    RIGA, June 12 (LETA) - The registered unemployment level in Latvia fell to 6.4 percent this past May, which is 0.3 percentage points less than in April, according to the State Employment Agency's data.

    At the end of May, there were 59,548 unemployed persons registered with the Employment Agency, down 2,334 people from a month ago.

    The lowest unemployment rate was registered in the Riga region – 4.1 percent, down 0.1 percentage points month-on-month, while the highest level was in Latgale region – 15.4 percent, down 0.5 percentage points.

    Unemployment rate for Zemgale decreased 0.4 percentage points to 6 percent. Unemployment rate for Vidzeme decreased 0.5 percentage points to 6,6 percent. Unemployment level in Kurzeme also dropped 0.3 percentage points, down to 7.1 percent at the end of May.

    The unemployment rate registered in Riga was 3.9 percent, down from 4 percent a month ago.
