First flu cases registered this season

RIGA, Dec 6 (LETA) - The first three influenza cases of the season were recorded in Latvia over the past couple of weeks, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.

One flu case was recorded in the age group of five to 14-year-old patients and two cases in the age group of 15 to 64-year-old patients. All three flu cases have been registered in Riga – two of them this week and one in the previous week.

Also, three suspected flu patients were hospitalized in Ventspils and Riga last week, but lab tests did not confirm the diagnosis. Since the start of the annual flu monitoring, nine suspected flu patients have been hospitalized in Latvia.

The Center for Disease Prevention and Control informed that for the time being flu intensity remained low in Latvia, with only sporadic cases registered this season.
