KNAB needs an additional EUR 1.5 million this year to fulfill its functions - Straume

RIGA, March 12 (LETA) - The Corruption Prevention Bureau (KNAB) needs an additional EUR 1.5 million this year to fulfill its functions, KNAB Chief Jekabs Straume told members of the press after a Saeima Defense, Internal Affairs and Corruption Prevention Committee meeting today.

The committee heard from the KNAB chief a report on the bureau's activities in 2018 and financing for 2019.

He told members of the press that the bureau needs an additional EUR 1.5 million to fulfill its functions and improve the work of the bureau.

''The KNAB's budget has increased, as well as salaries for KNAB officials. However, we also have an increase in capital costs - we have moved into a new building, we have more security guard positions and we have had to replace the vehicles available to us. We would also like to improve our capacity with the purchase of various types of equipment,'' he added.

He also praised the work of the bureau last year, and that it has achieved its objective.

''I would also like to add that resident are becoming more active in notifying about possible corrupt activities,'' he said.
