Voters unable to vote in polling stations where they are not registered due to system problems

RIGA, May 23 (LETA) – This morning voters are unable to cast their vote for the European Parliament elections in the polling stations where they are not registered because of problems of IT systems, LETA observed.

Such a situation has been reported in the polling stations at the Riga State Gymnasium No. 1 and Riga Avoti Elementary School, for example. The polling stations reported that system had not been operational for more than 25 minutes.

In total, 1,411,955 eligible voters have been registered for the European Parliament elections.

On Thursday all polling stations are open for early voting from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. There is also an early voting opportunity on Friday, while the actual election day is Saturday.

Voters are registered with a polling station near their registered place of residence, but during the days of early voting they may vote at any polling station if there is a possibility of online data exchange in this station. This may take longer time, said the Central Election Commission earlier.
