    Government nominates Valdis Dombrovskis for EU commissioner

    RIGA, June 11 (LETA) – The Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday decided to nominate current European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis (New Unity) for Latvia's European commissioner.

    The decision to nominate Dombrovskis was made by the coalition parties, therefore the matter was put on today’s agenda for the government meeting.

    The government tasked the Foreign Ministry to announce this decisions to the European Council’s secretary general.

    After the meeting with Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) today, Dombrovskis told the press that also in the future he wants to work with financial and economic issues at the European Commission.

    Dombrovskis said that he has not yet decided whether to continue work of the European commissioner until the term of European Commission President Jean Claude Junker’s office expired this fall or take up the European Parliament lawmaker’s post this summer.

    “This issue is on my agenda, there is no decision made yet, I still have a week or to to make the final decision,” he said.
