Greens/Farmers and Harmony re-elect Truksnis as Jurmala mayor

RIGA, June 19 (LETA) - The city council of Latvia's seaside resort Jurmala today re-elected scandal-ridden Gatis Truksnis (Greens/Farmers) as Jurmala mayor, LETA was told at the local authority.

As reported, the Union of Greens and Farmers has formed a coalition with Harmony in Jurmala.

Initially, the Union of Greens and Farmers said they would not nominate Truksnis for the mayoral office, but a few days later they changed their mind. Since Greens/Farmers have six seats on the Jurmala City Council, they needed at least two more votes to secure Truksnis' election.

As reported, initially Greens/Farmers said that they would not nominate Truksnis for Jurmala mayor, but the party changed its mind a few days later. Greens/Farmers will have six seats in Jurmala City Council, which means that they need to have at least two more councilmen's support to have the majority.

Greens/Farmers said previously that they had offered cooperation to the National Alliance, which will have two seats in Jurmala City Council, and to Harmony which will be represented by three councilors in Jurmala. The national Alliance said it was ready to cooperate with the Greens/Farmers unless they nominated Truksnis for Jurmala mayor.
