RIGA, Aug 31 (LETA) - Thanks to Dairis Bertans' contribution, Latvian men's basketball team won an important qualification game for the 2013 European Men's Basketball Championships (EuroBasket 2013) in Riga on Thursday, defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 80-64 (16-19, 26-11, 24-19, 14-15).
Altogether, Dairis Bertains scored 23 points in yesterday's game, but, most importantly, 18 points he scored in the second quarter gave Latvia a decisive lead. Also, Martins Meiers scored 16 points, whereas Davis Bertans had 11 points and seven rebounds.
As reported, Latvia lost the first qualification game against Bosnia and Herzegovina 84-87.
In another Group D game, the Dutch team beat Romania 80-74 (15-12, 16-18, 21-18, 28-16).
At the moment, Georgia is on top of Group D with three wins in four games. Bosnia and Herzegovina and Latvia have won three out of five games each. Netherlands is in fourth place with two wins in five games, whereas Romania has won one game so far.
Latvia will play its next qualifier in the Netherlands next Tuesday.
The top two teams, as well as the four best third placed teams from the six qualification groups, will qualify for EuroBasket 2013.
Latvia has qualified for the past six EuroBasket tournaments.
EuroBasket 2013 will be held in Slovenia from September 4-22, 2013.
