LONDON, July 28 (LETA) - On Saturday, Latvian beach volleyball pair Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Ruslans Sorokins kicked off the Olympics with a win.
In the opening Group D match, Samoilovs/Sorokins defeated Poland's Mariusz Prudel and Grzegorz Fijalek 2-1 (12:21, 21:15, 15:12).
Samoilovs/Sorokins will play their next group match on Monday against South Africa's Grant Goldschmidt and Freedom Chiya, and their final group match on Wednesday against Jacob Gibb/Sean Rosenthal (United States).
The top two finishers in the group will advance to the tournament's quarterfinals.
Latvia's second beach volleyball pair Martins Plavins and Janis Smedins will begin their group campaign tomorrow.
