    More people attend Riga Festival this year

    RIGA, Aug 20 (LETA) - Around 180,000 people attended the Riga Festival from August 17 through August 19, Riga City Council's representative Anna Kononova informed LETA.

    About 50,000 saw the fireworks display at the Daugava Embankment yesterday night.

    According to LETA archive, the number of participants in Riga Festival has increased - last year, 120,000 people attended the festival.

    Riga Mayor Nils Usakovs has expressed his thanks to the organizers of the festival and all authorities that were involved, including the state and municipal police, ambulances, janitors, and many others.

    According to Riga Municipal Police, the festival this year passed peacefully and without any noteworthy incidents.

    As reported, the Riga Festival this year continued for three days. Altogether, more than 60 various events were held in the downtown, Old Town, Pardaugava, Mezaparks and other areas of the city. This year, the Riga Festival marked the 730th anniversary since Riga became a member of the Hanseatic League in 1282.
