(FILE) A file photo dated 28 October 2003 shows a city limit sign of San Bernadino, California, USA. Media reports on 02 August 2012 state that the Californian city of San Bernadino, some 100 kilometers east of Los Angeles, filed for bankrupcy protection. The decision was reported to have been approved by the San Bernadino city council already in July 2012. The reports further state that San Bernadino has a budget deficit of about 46 million US dollar and faces debts and assets of more than one billion US dollars. EPA/JONATHAN YOUNG
