According to media reports, the Yemeni army forces routed on 15 June al-Qaeda militants from their final stronghold in Shaqra town few days after the US-backed army regained control of the al-Qaeda's two most important strongholds in the towns of Jaar and Zinjibar. The militants had seized several towns in Abyan during a popular uprising against the 34-year rule of former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
