People sit on May 22, 2012 outside apartment buildings in Sofia after an earthquake, measuring 5.8 on the open-ended Richter scale. The quake rocked Bulgaria shortly after 3:00 am (0000 GMT), Bulgaria?s Seismological Institute said on May 22. The US Geological Survey said earlier the quake hit at a depth of 9.1 kms (5.7 miles), 24 kms (14 miles) west of Sofia. The quake jolted the town of Pernik, about 30 kms (20 miles) southwest of Sofia, causing some tall buildings to sway, and was followed by about 15 lighter aftershocks. AFP PHOTO / NIKOLAY DOYCHINOV
