EPA 2012-06-20 14:34:04 B95 Moonbird spotted on 28 may
Handout photo showing B95, a migratory Red Knot nicknamed Moonbird (C), in Reeds Beach, New Jersey, USA, 28 May 2012. According to biologists monitoring it the bird has flown more than 550,000 kilometers, an average distance between the Earth and the Moon, in a 19 years period. An orange band was placed on the bird on February 1995 by Patricia Gonzalez, an Argentine Biologist who works for the Global Flyway Network, in Rio Grande, Argentina. Every May the bird migrates from Southern Argentina to the Canadian Artic, a 15,000 kilometers trip. At an estmated age of 19 years it is considered the oldest living Red Knot, and even a book, 'Moonbird: On the Wind with the Great Survivor B95', has been dedicated to this bird.
