Sri Lankan school children take part in a perahera or religious procession to mark the dawn of the Buddhist month of Esala in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 03 July 2012. The Buddhist month of Esala, corresponding to the months of July-August in the Roman calendar, signifies the Buddha's preaching of the first sermon after his enlightenment, the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta to five disciples at the Deer Park at Benares which inaugurated the Buddha's public ministry. In Sri Lanka the month witnesses peraheras or religious processions including the world renowned Kandy Esala Perahera of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. EPA/M.A.PUSHPA KUMARA
