A Romanian construction worker works in Bucharest on August 10, 2012. After two years of severe recession, Romania seemed on track to resume, though modest, sustainable growth. However, the lasting political crisis threatens to weaken the economy and drive away investors. Many analysts point out that the economy is "frozen", held hostage for over a month by the "war" between the center-left coalition of Victor Ponta, of the Social-Liberal Union (USL ), and the center-right President Traian Basescu, subjected to impeachment proceedings.
