India celebrated its 65th Independence Day 15 August to commemorate its independence from British rule and its birth as a sovereign nation on that day in 1947. Authorities in Indian Kashmir held the main Indian Independence Day function at Bhakshi stadium in Srinagar amid tight security arrangements and complete shutdown call given by separatists.
