Italian car designer Sergio Pininfarina, who was responsible for the sleek shapes of Ferraris and many other sports cars, has died, a spokeswoman at his Turin-based company confirmed 03 July 2012. Pininfarina, who had reportedly been ill for some time, died during the night, the ANSA news agency said. He was 85 years old. Born in Turin as Sergio Farina on September 8, 1926, Pininfarina took over the design company founded by his father Battista 'Pinin' Farina, a coachbuilder who died in 1966. In the 1960s, he also added his father's nickname 'Pinin' to his surname. Andrea Pininfarina died in a road crash 07 August 2008. EPA/DANILO SCHIAVELLA BEST QUALITY AVAILABLE
