Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on 03 July 2012 was quoted as saying that he regretted "100 per cent" the downing of a Turkish jet last month by the Syrian army. The incident raised tensions between the two neighbors and prompted Turkey to order its military to change the rules of engagement along the border, as both countries reinforced their units in the area.
