EPA 2012-08-05 11:51:22 United Nations calls on Philippines to approve family planning law
Filipino Lisa Villalon, who is eight months pregnant and says she has recently separated from her husband, holds her youngest child while her five other children watch television at their home in Quezon City, East of Manila, Philippines, 05 August 2012. The United Nations warned the Philippines on 05 August that development gains could 'turn to dust' if the legislature fails to approve a law to address reproductive health needs, even as some 10,000 demonstrators backed by the Catholic Church in the country gathered in Manila a day before to protest a reproductive health bill that has been pending for 11 years. The reproductive health bill aims to make condoms and contraceptives available to the poor, provide educational programs on family planning and offer sex education for pre-teens. EPA/ROLEX DELA PENA
