EPA 2012-08-12 17:53:39 India NGO trying to help widows
An elderly widow sits in a room at a shelter home for widows in Vrindavan, about 150 kms from New Delhi, India, 12 August 2012. The Indian Non-Government Organization (NGO) 'Sulabh International' has come forward to help some 1,800 widows, who are living in four government run shelters at Vrindavan, after the Supreme Court of India expressed concern over the plight of these women, who usually have to beg for their income on the streets of the city. According to a press release, the court has been shocked over the manner the bodies of these ladies were disposed after their death - cut into pieces and put into bags - in the wake of lack of funds for a proper cremation. Sulabh International has also offered to arrange training and provide employment to able-bodied widows. EPA/STR
