Covid-19 infections established at Saulkrasti Hospital and social care home

RIGA, Oct 28 (LETA) - A Covid-19 outbreak has been established at Saulkrasti Hospital and the local social care home in Saulkrasti, LETA was told by Saulkrasti Regional Council spokeswoman Baiba Stjade.

Eight employees of the hospital and nine patients of the hospital have tested positive for Covid-19, while two employees and seven clients of the social care home are infected with the virus.

Employees and hospital patients, as well as employees and clients of the social care home, were immediately tested for Covid-19 after one client of the social care home tested positive for Covid-19.

"The situation is dangerous because out of these 26 cases that have currently been detected, no symptoms of the virus were observed, so it is especially important to identify the contact persons," said Stjade.

Currently, the heads of Saulkrasti Hospital and social care home are cooperating with the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (SPKC) to make decisions on the future operation of both institutions, the operation of the trauma center, and the service providers on the hospital premises. The municipality calls on persons to avoid visiting the relevant institutions, and to comply with all of the safety measures set by the government.

Santa Ancane, a member of the hospital's board, said serious work was under way to make decisions about how best to proceed in the coming days.
