Four persons, including family physician, detained in Riga Region for falsifying Covid-19 vaccination certificates

RIGA, Oct 23 (LETA) - This week, police detained four persons in Riga Region on suspicion of falsifying Covid-19 vaccination certificates, including a family physician, LETA was informed by the State Police.

On October 19, police detained four women (born 1972, 1961, 1956 and 1953), who were all from the same medical institution.

Seven searches were also carried out in various places in the Riga region, including in the family physician's practice. False information about the receipt of vaccination, criminally obtained funds and other items important for the investigation were seized during the search.

The police obtained evidence during the investigation which suggests that without actually vaccinating against Covid-19, false data was entered into the vaccination processing system about vaccination. Several people have thus obtained a vaccination certificate, paying 400 euros for this ''service''.

At present, three persons have the status of suspects and non-custodial security measures are in place. In turn, one person has the status of a person against whom criminal proceedings have been initiated.

A criminal process has been launched.

The investigation into the criminal proceedings is ongoing and no further comments are currently being made in the interests of the investigation.

As reporyed, there are almost 20 criminal proceedings in connection with possible fictitious vaccination against Covid-19, Chief of the State Police Armands Ruks told reporters on Thursday.

Ruks said that there are "close to 20" criminal cases in the police record, and the number of cases initiated is changing on a daily basis. Several days ago, there were 15 such criminal proceedings under police investigation.
