    Latvia confirms 2,439 new Covid-19 cases, 22 deaths

    RIGA, Jan 12 (LETA) - Latvia confirmed 2,439 new Covid-19 cases and 22 more persons died of the coronavirus disease Tuesday, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) informed.

    Latvia's Covid-19 incidence continued to rise as the cumulative two-week number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population grew from 951 to 1,010.1 over the past 24 hours.

    The last time this number exceeded 1,000 was on November 16.

    Of the new Covid-19 cases 943 people were unvaccinated or had not completed their vaccination course, and 1,496 people were fully vaccinated.

    Of the latest Covid-19 victims, one person was aged 40 to 49, one person was aged between 50 to 59 years, four aged 60 to 69, six aged 70 to 79, eight were between 80 and 89 years, and one was between 90 to 99 years old. 15 of the victims were unvaccinated or had not completed their vaccination course, while seven were fully vaccinated.

    So far, Latvia has recorded 4,690 Covid-19 related deaths.

    Out of the 14,053 Covid-19 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 17.4 percent returned positive.

    According to LETA's estimates, there are currently 19,124 active Covid-19 cases in Latvia.

    Latvia has so far confirmed 293,395 Covid-19 cases.
