    Latvia confirms 725 new Covid-19 cases, eight more deaths

    RIGA, Feb 26 (LETA) - Latvia confirmed 725 new Covid-19 cases and eight people died of the coronavirus on Thursday, according to the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

    Of the latest Covid-19 victims, one person between the ages of 40 and 49, one between the ages of 50 and 59, one between the ages of 60 and 69, one between the ages of 70 and 79, three between the ages of 80 and 89 and another from 90 to 99 years.

    Of the 12,715 Covid-19 tests carried out on Thursday, 5.7 percent came back positive, down from 6.6 percent the day before. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 4 percent, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

    Latvia's total Covid-19 caseload thus reached 84,983, while death toll grew to 1,601 people or 1.88 percent of all people with positive Covid-19 tests.

    According to LETA's estimates, Latvia has recorded 9,474 Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days, while the country's cumulative 14-day Covid-19 incidence per 100,000 population is now 496.6.
