    Self-isolation mandatory for travelers returning to Latvia from Malta, Monaco and France

    RIGA, July 31 (LETA) - As Covid-19 continues to spread, travelers returning to Latvia from Malta, Monaco and France are required to self-isolate for 14 days because of an increased Covid-19 incidence in these countries, according to the latest data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

    Based on the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the 14-day self-isolation requirement still applies to people arriving in Latvia from Switzerland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Croatia, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Andorra, Bulgaria, Romania and Luxembourg. Malta, Monaco and France have been added to the list of 'unsafe' countries this week.

    The CDC advises against traveling to most of these countries. As regards Switzerland, Austria and France, the center recommends carefully considering the necessity to visit these countries. 

    Self-isolation is not required for travelers returning from Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay. The 14-day self-isolation remains in force for returnees from Russia, Belarus, Australia, Morocco and Canada, as well as all other non-EU countries not on the CDC list. 

    Among the Baltic states, the highest 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases has been recorded in Lithuania, which has 5.7 cases per 100,000 population, while Latvia and Estonia both have 2.6 cases per 100,000 population. 

    Among the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), Luxembourg has the highest Covid-19 incidence with 243.4 cases per 100,000 population. Romania follows with 75.1 cases and Andorra with 58.2 cases per 100,000 population.

    There are no active coronavirus cases in the Vatican at the moment. 

    In Latvia, The self-isolation requirement does not apply to arrivals from countries where the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases does not exceed 16 per 100,000 population.
