Government decides on new restrictions for number of people allowed in private and public events, more extensive use of face masks

RIGA, Oct 23 (LETA) - As Covid-19 incidence continues climbing, the government will further restrict the maximum number of people allowed to attend private and public events and introduce more extensive use of face masks.

Starting from October 24, the maximum number of people allowed in private events will reduced from 30 to ten indoors and from 300 to 100 outdoors.

Other restrictions will come into force on Monday, October 26 - the number of people allowed to gather for public or business events will be reduced from 500 to 300 indoors.

Wearing of face masks will be mandatory in all public places, also during events where people have fixed and personalized seats.

Masks will not be required where their use is impossible, such as swimming pools, saunas and similar places, as well as beauty saloons.

As it is predicted that the desired goal will not be reached by November 6, which is the date set earlier for the requirement to wear masks, the expiration date for this requirement has not been set.

The government has decided that also those people who have recovered from Covid-19 will be required to wear face masks.

As reported, a number of restrictions were introduced on October 17, but today the Health Ministry said that these restrictions had not provided the desired effect and Covid-19 continues spreading.
