For Development/For decides to nominate Kristaps Eklons for interior minister
RIGA, May 23 (LETA) - For Development/For has decided to nominate General Kristaps Eklons, deputy chief of the State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD), for the interior minister, LETA learned from the party's co-chairman Daniels Pavluts.
Pavluts has already informed Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) in writing on the decision of the party.
VUGD General has been selected because of multiple reasons. He has good recommendations from former interior minister Marija Golubveva (For Development/For).
Pavluts said that it was important to select a candidate whose ability to understand interior matters is undoubtable from the first day.
As reported, the National Alliance demanded a resignation of Interior Minister Marija Golubeva (For Development) following the events at the monument to Soviet soldiers in Riga's Pardaugava on May 9 and 10, threatening that the National Alliance will leave the government if she remains in the position. Golubeva announced her resignation afterwards because she had lost support of the prime minister, she said.
