    Two ministries propose EUR 300 million program for renovation of 105 road sections across Latvia

    RIGA, July 29 (LETA) - The Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry and the Transport Ministry have proposed a EUR 300 million program for renovation of 105 road sections almost 900 kilometers long in total, in order to improve access to regional centers.

    The investment program has been developed in cooperation with local governments and Latvijas Valsts Celi state road management company.

    During the work on the project, agreement was reached on several road sections that could be renovated already in 2020, and the two ministries will seek budget funding for these renovation projects.

    In total, up to 900 kilometers of regional and local roads will be reconstructed and renovated to foster the administrative territorial reform. The project requires a total of EUR 300 million.

    In Riga planning region, 183.29 kilometers of roads will be renovated for EUR 54.6 million, as well as 159.5 kilometers of roads in Zemgale for EUR 51.2 million, 137.18 kilometers of roads in Kurzeme for EUR 53.9 million, 235.04 kilometers in Latgale for EUR 77.7 million, and 162.98 kilometers in Vidzeme for EUR 62.8 million.

    In 2021, EUR 93.76 million will be sought from the budget for implementation of the project, as well as EUR 97.45 million in 2022 and EUR 108.79 million in 2023.
